Mr. Selfish and I had both been to the Palace of Versailles previously but we couldn’t resist seeing the opulence again. We waited for a sunny day and embarked. It was indeed as lovely as I remembered. Unfortunately, because the weather had turned cold, the fountains were turned off. It was nevertheless still beautiful.
The gardens are quite extensive, and we decided to stroll along the Grand Canal. We didn’t make it all the way to the end of the canal since we were running out of time to tour the palace. We did take a mini-break and sit near the water.
Finally, we went inside the palace. A guard had told us earlier that the palace closes at 6pm. Apparently even though the palace closes at 6pm, they start kicking out the tourists at 5:45pm, so we were quite rushed to go through the palace. Luckily, we made it to the Hall of Mirrors in time.
We hung around the palace as long as we could before the guards came up to us and asked us to leave. We had the outside area mostly to ourselves, and the sun was starting to set. It was lovely.
