Mr. Selfish and I were particularly surprised at the serious amounts of beach infrastructure in Sydney. Not only is a sizeable chunk of the population into water sports, but Sydney has the infrastructure to support it. As far as I could tell, each beach has its own “Surf Life Saving Club,” a salt water pool, and tons of paved walkways for scenic beach strolls.
We enjoyed the walk from Bondi beach to Bronte beach. We took this stroll during our first day in Sydney. Although we were quite jetlagged, we couldn’t fail to appreciate how beautiful it was.
We liked seeing the surfers trying to catch the waves. The waves seemed rather ferocious but it didn’t deter the surfers one bit.
It just got prettier and prettier as the sun started to set.
A few weeks later, Mr. Selfish and I returned to Bondi and Bronte beach to take the walk again. Unfortunately, the weather was quite bad. It was still enjoyable to see how moody the sky and ocean were that day.
I highly recommend taking some beach strolls if you visit Sydney. The intense beach infrastructure was a nice surprise for us.
Heading there in July. Can you walk a long way on paved places (i.e., with tennis shoes?) or should I pack more beachy shoes? How far is the Bronte to Bondi walk?
@Joe – the whole walk is paved, so you should be fine with tennis shoes. The walk is a little over a mile in one direction and should take less than 20 minutes depending on how much you stop to admire the view. Have fun, it was one of our favorite parts of Sydney!
I love how the beaches are equally beautiful under the sun and in the clouds.
