Mr. Selfish and I love living in cities where you can walk. Not only is it great exercise, but you don’t have to look for parking. Being in Nob Hill, we have taken to walking to the Ferry Building on the weekends. The walk is about 1.5 miles one-way and takes about half an hour at a leisurely pace through Chinatown. We usually go on Saturdays because we enjoy browsing the farmer’s market and tasting all of the delicious samples.
However, the main reason that we go on Saturday is because the Roli Roti truck is there on Saturdays. Mr. Selfish is obsessed with their porchetta sandwiches. Roli Roti specializes in rotisserie, and although they have rotisserie chicken, we’ve never tried it. We’ve only had the mouth-watering and perfectly cooked and seasoned porchetta.
The porchetta is pork loin seasoned with rosemary, sage, and garlic, wrapped in pork belly, rolled up, tied off, and slow-roasted on a spit for hours. This perfection of pork is then put on an Acme ciabatta roll and finished with curly cress, sweet onion marmalade, and a sprinkle of sea salt. Yeah, it’s that good.
After this feast of pork, Mr. Selfish and I usually walk around and taste more fruit samples. We also go inside the Ferry Building to browse. But to be honest, we’re usually pretty stuffed at this point, so we don’t eat much else.
I highly recommend Cowgirl Creamery and Acme Bread if you want really good cheese and bread. Mr. Selfish and I usually don’t have room after the porchetta sandwiches, but we have been to the Ferry Building when Roli Roti was not there and munched down at these places.
After wandering around for a bit, Mr. Selfish and I usually walk around a bit more to burn some of those porky calories we just consumed. On one particularly sunny day, we walked toward the Bay Bridge.
Although I’m not quite obsessed with it as I am the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge is a sight to behold up close. I also enjoyed Cupid’s Span even though it is a random piece of art. All in all, Mr. Selfish and I walked a leisurely six miles that day. Hopefully, we burned some of those Roli Roti calories off, but man, that porchetta sandwich is worth it!
